Belgian startup Cowboy has released a new, upgraded version of its elegant take on the commuter bike. The Cowboy 3 comes with carbon belt transmission and updated gear ratio, and the same sleek form factor that turned it into such a hit with riders.
Founded in 2017, Cowboy has been selling electric bikes to several major European countries. Their version of the commuter bike is, unlike similar products, sleek and relatively light, elegant and fast, while also very efficient. The Cowboy 3 remains all that, but is now even more efficient.
The Cowboy 3 comes with carbon belt transmission from Gates, which is rated for 30,000 km (18,641 miles), twice the rating on the previous belt drive system used. At the same time, it comes with updated gear ratio for faster starts uphill, which is extremely useful considering this is a one-speed commuter bike.
Other than this, The Cowboy 3 is similar to its predecessor. Given current EU regulations, it packs a 250W motor in the rear wheel, able to reach top speeds of 25 kph (15.5 mph). The 360Wh battery, mounted in the rear of the seat tube and partially obscured from view, gives it a range of 70 km (43.5 miles) and can be fully charged in 3.5 hours. The battery is removable and weighs 2.4 kg (5.29 pounds).
The entire bike is relatively lightweight, especially considering it’s made of aluminum. At 16.9 kg (37 pounds), it’s considerably lighter than other options on the market, not including those with carbon fiber parts / frame.
There’s also smart connectivity, though a dedicated app, with crash detection, theft alert and automatic unlocking. The app also offers important info like air quality maps. Hydraulic disk brakes, puncture-resistant tires, integrated lights, and the proprietary seat complete the picture of an e-bike that brings comfort and safety to commuter rides.
The Cowboy 3 costs €2,290 ($2,583) and will ship to certain European countries in eight weeks. Colors available are Mineral Grey, Absolute Black, and Anthracite Grey. Also this summer, Cowboy will introduce the Cowboy Mobile Experience in select cities, where riders will be able to bring in their Cowboy e-bikes for servicing free of charge.
