In case you haven’t checked the news yet, you should know there have been some violent confrontations between French taxi drivers and authorities in what turned out to be a massive anti-Uber strike. Things were quite dangerous with some parts of Paris even being blocked because of the clashes. It turns out there also were some celebrities affected by the incidents.
A storm of Tweets and Instagram posts took over Courtney Love’s social network accounts as the former wife of Kurt Cobain would leave all her fans know she might be in danger. The incidents went on this afternoon (Thursday, June 25) as France’s capital was hit by massive protests that blocked the city and Marseille transport.

According to BBC, French taxi drivers have blocked the roads to Paris airports and the main ring road around the city, prompting riot police to fire tear gas at some. Images with cars overturned and tires burning in the street were flowing the social networks, as the news networks were covering the riots live.

The reasons appear to be the same that affected several other countries, where taxi drivers claim Uber unfairly undercuts them. While the regular transport implies a license every driver is paying, the ride-sharing service is often not regulated. While the government in France has banned the service by law in October, the giant transport service based in San Francisco has appealed against the rule.

Although things remain unclear, the French taxi unions have decided to start a massive strike. As we said, it was not just regular people who found themselves in the middle of it. Judging by Love’s tweets and pictures, the car she was traveling with was also attacked as she was trying to reach the city.

Here’s just one of the posts she made throughout the social rage:

How on earth are these people allowed to do this? The first car was destroyed, all tires slashed and beat with bats, these guys trying to open the doors and the cops are doing nothing?? French Taliban? Civil reform needed in France?? I want to go home”.

Apparently, she did eventually escape from the car she was in with the help of two bikers who offered her a ride.
