Coulthard Gets Fined for Speeding in India

Scottish racing driver David Coulthard found himself in a bit awkward position the past weekend, after he had driven along the RajiV Gandhi Sea Link during a Red Bull F1 demonstration run. Nothing special about that, but the Scot received a fine for speeding afterwards...

Coulthard has been recorded driving at 162 mph, while the speed limit on the bridge is of 62 mph and even 31 mph on some portions. Though he has been warned to respect the speed limit prior to the event, Coulthard ignored it and he therefore received a nearly £20,000 fine.

According to autocar.co.uk, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation issued a statement which read: "We respect David for helping put the Link on the global map. But he crossed the speed limit and we will have to recover the penalty. We will not return the organisers' deposit."

Dressed in the trademark Red Bull Racing Pilot Jumpsuit, David Coulthard drove with his Red Bull Racing F1 car over the Sea Link. Commissioner of Mumbai Police, D. Sivananda wished David the very best for the event and flagged off the Red Bull Racing F1 Car.

“This afternoon has been simply amazing. When I look back on this I can take pride in the fact that I was part of the first Formula 1 team to experience the Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link in a Formula 1 car. Mumbai is such a vibrant city and its simply captivated me despite my short stay. I couldn’t have thought of a better city and place to do this event. Thanks to Mumbai and its people!” David commented on his first experience with F1 in India.
