Cosworth Regrets Toyota Leaving F1 Series

As many of you already know, today was a sad day for Formula 1 fans as another team decided to pull the plug on the financing and get out of the competition. Japanese automaker Toyota announced earlier today the withdrawal from F1.

After Honda and BMW, this is the third marque to quit the Great Circle due to difficult economical climate. British engine manufacturer Cosworth felt the need to express its sadness over news of Toyota’s departure. Cosworth is returning to Formula 1 next year and will supply engines for Lotus, US F1, Campos and Manor teams, plus former champion Williams.

"The decision by Toyota Motor Corporation to withdraw from Formula 1 with immediate effect is deeply regretted but underlines the importance of all stakeholders in the sport working together to ensure a profitable and sustainable future," said Cosworth F1 boss Mark Gallagher.

"We look forward to working with the FIA, the Commercial Rights Holder, the teams and other engine manufacturers in protecting the future of Formula 1 and building on the very positive developments in the sport as reflected in Sunday's inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix."

Cosworth engineering company was founded in 1958 in London and supplies a wide range of motorsport series like World Rally Championship and World Superbikes. In 1963, Cosworth started its career in Formula 1 which continued until 2006, when they supplied the Williams team with Cosworth V8 engines, transmissions, and associated electronics; and the Scuderia Toro Rosso team using rev-limited Cosworth V10s based on 2005 spec engines. Hopefully Cosworth will have a great comeback, just like the 43 years of history in these series.
