Chevrolet has big plans for this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, as the company has announced it will bring its iconic performance vehicles to the event. The top incarnation of the Corvette, the ZR-1, will be present, together with the Camaro.
But the supercar and the pony car will do more than just offer a visual treat, as their presence will mark the official introduction to the UK market.
“These iconic cars, such as Corvette and Camaro, are clear indicators of how strong Chevrolet’s brand heritage is,” said Chevrolet UK Managing Director Mark Terry. “The fact that they are here, in Europe, being sold as Chevrolets is the clearest indication yet of the confidence that General Motors has in the Chevrolet brand, and the direction it is headed in Europe.”
In addition to the two latest performance models that are scheduled to join Chevrolet Europ’s range, the company will bring both of the Silverline Chevrolet Cruze racecars from the British Touring Car Championship.
The ZR-1 and the Camaro, which will also take part in the Moving Motor Show (July 1), will race in the Goodwood hillclimb (July 2-4), being joined by one of the Cruze racers, with works drivers Jason Plato and Alex MacDowall behind the wheel.
"A couple of years ago, Chevrolet was a brand you wouldn’t have seen at Goodwood,” added Terry. “But we’ve come so far in so little time that we’re now a brand that can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the most prestigious names in performance motoring.”
