The seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvette is pure Americana. If it were a desert, the gastronomical equivalent to the Corvette would be an apple pie. Music? Lynyrd Skynyrd with a modern twist. Though Kentucky’s best evolved through the years to adopt various safety systems, all that performance cannot be kept under control solely by the electronic nannies.
Autonomous cars are still at least a decade away from hitting the dealers. Until then, nothing can equal driver awareness and talent (if applicable). See that crashed Corvette in the photograph above? It’s hard to appreciate the driver’s know-how behind the steering wheel, but he's not to blame for the dramatic crash.
According to Canadian news outlet Meridian Booster, the driver of the Torch Red Corvette wasn’t speeding or engaged in an overtaking maneuver at the time a Jeep Compass ignored a stop sign. The scene of the carnage is the intersection of Highway 897 and Highway 16, near the Village of Kitscoty in Alberta, Canada. The southbound Jeep Compass ran into the Chevy Corvette’s passenger side, inflicting heavy damage.
Whereas the drivers of the Jeep Compass and C7 Corvette Stingray got out of the mess-up with a lil’ scare, the ‘Vette’s passenger was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Jeep’s driver was taken to Lloydminster’s RCMP detachment to take the breathalyzer test, but no intel is available about the results.
There are two morals to this story. First and foremost, the seventh-generation Corvette hasn’t been rated by the NHTSA yet but we believe that it deserves 5 stars in a side crash scenario. Secondly, remember to take your time and look left and right as much as you need to feel comfortable to cross an intersection.
