Corvette C7 Nearly Crashes Drag Racing BMW M3 from Stop Light

It’s all fun and games making cars with more and more power up until people start getting hurt. That’s what nearly happened in the video below, when an over-enthusiastic Corvette driver wanted to show the audience just how much power his car has.

For those of you that aren’t all that into American sport cars, the Corvette C7 has a good old 6.2-liter small-block V8 under the bonnet, making 455 HP and 624 Nm (460 lb-ft) of torque hooked up to either an automatic or a manual gearbox.

The problem is, all that power goes only to the rear wheels and that can cause some headaches, at the very least. Turning off the electronics that keep you in check is also a very bad idea, come to think about it, but then you can’t really drag race when there's a stupid sensor cutting your power, now can you?

All in all, this driver proves to be better than expected at first. After revving his engine alongside a brand new BMW M3 at a stop light, he launches quite beautifully, only to slightly lose control of his car a couple of milliseconds later.

The rear end started skidding and he nearly crashed into the curve, his reflexes keeping him in check and his car scratchless for now. We have to admire the fact that he kept his cool and managed to get things back on track avoiding making an even bigger fool out of himself.

On the other hand, the BMW driver kept it all drama free, even though he too had a lot of power on the rear wheels. To be more precise, 431 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque, enough to get out of control really quick. And yet, nothing happened in the German car. Was it the car or the driver? What do you think?
