“A diligent groundskeeper at the Chestnut Hill Cemetery came across something suspicious this morning and called us right away,” the PD says. “It appears that a number of Amazon Packages were dumped in one of their garbage disposal bins. We are investigating to see how they wound up there.”
While doing the rounds to deliver the packages, the cops also alerted Amazon, in the hope they might help them track down the driver responsible for it.
“To ensure that everyone gets their merchandise in a timely fashion (and without too much red tape!) we are delivering the packages to the proper addresses,” the PD adds. “If you see an officer delivering your packages say hello!”
Neither post mentioned the number of packages dumped in the garbage bin, but based on the photos posted online, it was probably more than 20. Another thing the police didn’t say was whether anything went missing from the ripped packages.
While it’s very rare for policemen to act as delivery drivers, it has happened before. In August this year, for example, a 5-year-old boy got hungry and, without his older sister’s knowing, called 911 to ask if he could possibly get a pizza. A police unit was dispatched to his home and, along with the pizza, they brought a talking-to on how no one should abuse the emergency service line unless there is an actual emergency they want to report.
