Convertible BMW 2 Series Set for Late 2014 Launch

It’s no longer a surprise that the 2 Series range is bound to get bigger, with the addition of at least one extra model, apart from the Coupe and Active Tourer versions. One of them is the Convertible version that we’ve been seeing testing here and there.

According to Car Advice, the new model will be released later this year, making it within the usual one year gap we’ve been seeing between models within the same range.

The Convertible 2er will be replacing the 1 Series drop top that was received world wide better than expected. “Looking at the success of the 1 Series Convertible – worldwide the 1 Series Coupe sold over 150,000, where the Convertible sold close to that, around 130,000, nearly an even split – it’s a very successful concept, and it would be kind of foolish to not go down that path,” BMW Australia Product Manager for 1 Series, 2 Series, 3 Series and 4 Series, Christoph Priemel said.

Of course, since we saw the first prototypes out testing, we already knew that the Convertible was coming. We also know that it will be using a soft top, just like the car it’s replacing. As for the engines, expect the exact same line-up focused around 2-liter petrol and diesel variants and the M235i version with its turbocharged 3-liter 326 HP N55 unit.

In case the 2014 launch doesn’t happen by the time the Paris Motor Show is over, expect the new 2er to be unveiled at Detroit in 2015 but that’s less likely to happen.
