Picking a midsize SUV in the United States is not easy. It’s a very competitive market and each model comes with its very own strengths and weaknesses.
Some provide plenty of room inside, others have impressive towing and off-road capabilities. Some SUVs can deliver good fuel economy as well. But none of them can have offer all of the above.

So what are you best choices then? According to Consumer Reports, the monthly magazine that publishes reviews and comparisons of various products and services, says you can choose between six 2014 model year vehicles.

First up on their list is the Hyundai Santa Fe, which comes with plenty of room on the second row and a lot of bang for the buck. CR adds that the South Korean vehicle also delivers the best fuel economy in its class - 20 miles per gallon combined.

The Toyota Highlander is on par with the Santa Fe in terms second row room, but offers a more comfortable ride. On the other hand, it won’t match the Hyundai’s mpg figure. If you’re looking for more interior room, then the minivan-like Chevrolet Traverse (GMC Acadia) are your best bet, says CR.

Still need more space? Then try the Ford Flex with its limo-like second row and spacious cargo area.

If towing trailers is your business, then you should consider the Dodge Durango and its powerful V8 engine. As far as off-road capability goes, CR notes that the Jeep Grand Cherokee is both skilled and comfortable in rough terrain in addition to its luxurious and refined interior.

However, the latter is far from being perfect, with the magazine quoting some reliability issues. Click past the jump to watch the video.
