Consumer Reports Picks Five Great Overlooked Cars

Last week, Consumer Reports posted its 2014 Car Brand Report Cards, naming the Tesla Model S the Best Overall Pick for 2014. Additionally, the organization also selected 22 vehicles for its Worst Cars of 2014 list, placing them in nine categories.

More recently, they’ve put together a top five list with five overlooked vehicles that customers from the United States should consider. As usual, Consumer Reports chose the cars based on the results from their test drives.

The first vehicle CR recommends is the 2014 Buick Regal, “a great compact luxury sedan” that comes with a “quick engine”, a great interior and an all-wheel drive options. In SUV category, CR says you should give the “agile” and capable Mazda CX-9 a shot.

Their pickup truck selection doesn’t include a vehicle made by Detroit’s Big Three, so don’t expect to see a Ford F-150, a Chevy Silverado or a Ram 1500. CR says the Honda Ridgeline is a really good option at $32,380. Moving over to sports sedans, CR thinks you should skip BMW and Mercedes-Benz and buy a Volkswagen Jetta GLI, a spacious daily driver that will satisfy your sporty desires.

CR’s fifth pick is also a VW-badged car - the “solid and sporty” Tiguan that “rides comfortably” for less than $30,000 for the base model. Scroll below for the video and share your thoughts with us using our comment box.
