Unfortunately, the app is supported only for iOS devices in car at the moment but support for more platforms is in the works as we speak. If you own an iPhone, you’ll be glad to learn that you can now access your own music and playlists inside the car, use features like Radio and Browse and enjoy high-quality music played at 320 kbps if you’re a premium user. The trick is, you get to do them all using the car’s on-board iDrive system and its controller.

"We're very excited to be partnering with BMW to bring Spotify to their line-up of Premium automobiles from today”, said Jorge Espinel, Spotify’s VP of Global Business Development.

BMW ConnectedDrive brings the popular features of the Spotify mobile app to life in the dashboard with safe access to all the music you could ever want. Whether you want to listen to your own music, browse for a curated playlist, or just sit back and enjoy Spotify Radio, Spotify will always deliver the perfect music for any journey,” he added.

This is just another app in BMW’s portfolio

Not only BMW is now focusing on bringing more apps inside your car. Other manufacturers do it as well and the results are starting to show. The attention to this area of a car’s infotainment system is also extremely beneficial for all parties included because it allows the manufacturers to offer never before thought possible customizing options.

BMW is currently bringing a plethora of apps to the market. As far as music and streaming options go, you can have your pick out of eleven of them now, with choices also including Deezer, TuneIn, Napster/Rhapsody, Audible and Pandora.

Spotify, on the other hand, is an award-winning digital music service that gives you on-demand access to over 20 million tracks. The app is now available in 58 markets with more than 50 million active users and over 12.5 million paying subscribers.

The app for BMW’s ConnectedDrive system can now be downloaded from the Apple App Store and used via an USB connection or a snap-in adapter.

Users are presented with its various functions via the iDrive Controller/MINI Controller, the Control Display/MINI Centre Instrument and the car’s audio system. To use the app in BMW and MINI models, the BMW ConnectedDrive Services or MINI Connected option needs to be specified.
