It's a well known fact that Button has maybe the smoothest style when it comes to driving an F1 car, which is usually a good thing if one doesn't have to worry about the cold weather. However, with temperatures for the Nurburgring circuit forecasted to stay below 20 degrees (C) during the course of this weekend, not being a bit hard on the brakes might cause a big problem in terms of getting the tires up to temperature.
This was, in fact, Red Bull's main advantage at Silverstone, three weekends ago. Apart from the British circuit's more flowing nature – which benefits more the RB5 than the BGP 001 – the low temperatures made it hard for Button to work his tires during the race. After finishing 6th at the chequered flag, the Brit reckoned that two of his stints were influenced by poor tire performances due to lack of grip.
Rain was, until today, not forecasted at Nurburgring, but recent Formula One races at the foothills of the Eifel mountains were usually affected by cloudy conditions either during race days or prior to it.
Despite their dominant performance at Silverstone, the Red Bull duo is still more than 25 points behind championship leader Jenson Button – 25 for Vettel, 28.5 for Webber – with 9 more races to go. As Webber put it earlier this week, the 2009 title is only Button's to lose, but if the weather will be on Red Bull's side on Sunday, our guess is we're going to have a thrilling race at the Ring this weekend.
