Thomas Fritz, the man who for the past three years has been responsible with leading Fisker Automotive's engineering department, has switched sides and has now been enlisted by the company that hopes to become a major electric vehicle manufacturer, Coda.
Fritz has been appointed to the position of senior vice president of engineering and will be the man in charge with solving the engineering challenges for the Electric sedan. Fritz has a strong experience in the automotive sector, being responsible for the Fisker Karma and prior to that, the BMW Z8. He has been employed by various big names of the industry, including Ford, BMW and Magna Steyr.
"Not only are we on the leading edge of electric vehicle propulsion system development, but we are also well positioned to develop energy storage applications to expand the useable hours of renewable energy, which will reduce the need for coal and petroleum based electricity generation," Fritz said.
"I am thrilled to join a company that is at the cutting edge of this movement and to contributing to the successful launch of the Coda."
The Coda Electric sedan, the core model of the company now led by former GM executive Philip Murtaugh, is getting ready to be launched in the next few months. Partially built using Chinese parts, the car is a five-passenger EV based on a former Mitsubishi model sold in Asia.
Power for the model comes from an all-electric drive system which includes a 33.8 kWh Lithium-ion battery. The pack gives the car a range of 120 miles (193 km).
