From the five concepts presented by Cobra’s Special Projects Division last month, just two came to life: the Scrambler and the Tracker, both based on Honda's new Shadow V-Twin model, the RS750. First off, we bring to you the Cobra RS750 Scrambler, a bike built by the company’s chief fabricator Denny Berg.

The Scrambler evokes the CL77 Scrambler 305 from the 1960. “Amazingly, there was no major surgery involved in turning the first bike from a 2010-model RS750 into a 1960s-style CL750 Scrambler,” Cobra says.

Because the twin up-pipes with their multi-louvered heat shields were such a signature item, Berg paid particular attention to their bends and how they tucked in. He trimmed about an inch and a half from each plastic sidepanel and rearranged the electrics underneath so the exhaust could be positioned on the right side of the bike.

Likewise, the shock mounts were moved about an inch inboard before new Progressive Suspension #14s were attached. What is really interesting is that, except for the paint and Denny's usual myriad of detail touches, the rest of the bike is largely stock. Even the gas tank is as it came from Honda, with the addition of a retro seam down the middle, rubber knee grips and round "Wing" badges.

The Scrambler's seat, padding and upholstery was handled by longtime Cobra collaborator Kevin Lehan from LeMans Seats. Paint was sprayed by Scott "Chivo" Harrington of Lead Sled Customs.

“In the end and as usual, The Cobra Special Projects division has come up with two memorable motorcycles, more concept bike than outrageous custom, one from the 1960s, one from the 1980s, both equally at home in the 21st century,” a company statement reads.
