We believe that turbocharging and downsizing are not an exact form of progress in the auto industry, just a way to trick the EU into thinking emissions have been lowered. So when the Clio RS swapped its 2.0-liter for a 1.6L turbo, we were disappointed. About three years later, they appear to be apologizing with the KZ 01 special edition.
From the outside, you may notice some things have been enhanced slightly. However, the photos we have received from the Clio RS Concept Facebook page suggest the real magic is under the hood.

Apparently, that's the Megane RS engine, complete with its 275 horsepower output. To us, it doesn't look quite right, especially considering the shape of the air intake, which screams "Clio." However, tuning parts are present.

French media, on the other hand, is saying the KZ 01 special will have 250 horsepower, hinting that this is due to a +30 hp tune for the engine in the 220 Trophy. That's still very impressive and totally doable, considering the Peugeot 308 GTI has 270 PS 1.6-liter turbo.

We're still hoping a Megane 2-liter turbo is being used. It would teach the MINI JCW a harsh lesson. Such an extreme engine swap has also been performed in recent years. For example, Volkswagen pulled the 1.4 TSI from the Polo GTI and replaced it with the equivalent Golf unit to make the Polo R WRC celebratory edition. It's also how the Audi S1 came to be.

The Clio RS KZ 01 will be presented on May 29 at the Monaco GP. For the record, hat's also where the Twin'Run concept was shown. Rumor has it that it will enter production with 500 units to be made and sold to hardcore hot hatch fans.

Cosmetic changes seem to include fender flares, redesigned air intakes, and new wheels. There's also a sexy F1-inspired trunk wing. While we hate the logos in the front bumper, you can hear the quiet screams of the Fiesta ST. Renault may be showing the world that it's about to flex its muscles once again.
