We've watched plenty of Claudia Schiffer commercials over the years, but never seen the German temptress promote something so… family oriented. A collaboration between the blonde beauty and German automaker Opel has resulted in this TV promo for the Astra Sportstourer estate.
Featuring one of the most beautiful women alive in an ad for a German car is a smart idea, just as long as it's not badly executed. Fortunately, Opel has the right idea and presents its estate not as being as sexy as Claudia, but reliable as a German car should be.
The ad centers around one man's dream which he relates to his friend. Of course, men don't talk about dreams and astrology in real life, preferring to talk football and women instead. But a supermodel arriving to fix your Astra negates any loss of masculinity that would occur in such a situation.
This is just one commercial in a multi-part "Made in Germany" campaign, featuring most of the German brand's cooler vehicles. Opel Chief Marketing Officer Tina Müller has described miss Schiffer as a good fit in Opel’s vision of what a brand ambassador should be like.
Launched in 2010, the Opel Astra Sportstourer has the same wheelbase as the regular 5-door, but though a larger overhang increases the cargo-carrying capacity. Together with the rest of Opel's compact family, it received a facelift last year and recently also gained a new 1.6-liter diesel engine in two stages of tune.
