The British seem to enjoy making all kinds of rankings and statistics. The British Science Association just proposed a new poll in order to let the public decide which invention brought the most important innovations in the last century in the field of science and technology. One of the contenders is the Classic Mini.
Created by Sir Alec Issigonis in 1959, the small car was never expected to have such an impact on the car industry, even 54 years after its release. The small hatch gave an example of extraordinary usage of space, creating a comfortable and spacious interior whilst also keeping the car's size to a minimal.

Mini is the only car to make the list put together by the British Science Association, another testimony of the impact this car had on everyone, not just the automotive industry.

Winning against remarkable inventions like radar and ultrasound technology, the antibiotic penicillin, the artificial hip, the hovercraft, the jet engine, the atomic clock, Dolly the cloned sheep and the World Wide Web, the Mini doesn't seem to stand a chance. However, just being mentioned amongst these great creations is a big honor.

The poll is overviewed by the world-famous astrophysicist Professor Stephen Hawking of Cambridge University and you can check the complete list and cast your vote here.
