We like the guys from Jalopnik. We read their posts every time we have a chance to and each time we laugh or at least smile at the crazy things they say. These guys put together a top of the all-time best front wheel drive cars and we were surprised by the results.
It's not that the Classic, original Mini made the top, it's the spot the car occupies. It's ranked only number 9 and that is unfair, according to us. Furthermore, the Golf GTI, an icon amongst the front wheel drive cars (and hot hatches) is ranked only 10th.
Now, we know the top was made based solely on the readers' votes but still. We think the Mini Cooper deserved a better ranking than the 9th place in which it ended up.
All the cars in this top were amazing in their days but the one thing that makes the Mini a prodigy is that it was never built to be a quick, sporty car. It was built just to offer British people a cheap, small yet spacious car.
However, the final, production car was so light and well balanced that it became an instant hit, and it's still being used as a benchmark. Almost all the other cars were built with performance in their mind, that's why the Mini is special and that's why we think it deserves a place on the podium.
