Even though the two musclecars you’re about to see below were built at very different times (six years were a lot back in the day), the scene was probably pretty common on US drag strips in the era when all automakers were still relying on track results when selling passenger vehicles.
We’re talking about a 1969 Ford Mustang 428 Cobra Jet, one of only 243 such vehicles built that year, and a 1963 Chevrolet Impala SS fitted with a dual quad 409 engine. The lighter Mustang churns 335 horsepower under that long hood, while the heavier Impala puts 425 HP to the ground. Different bodies, different class, different figures... but one heck of a duel if you ask us.
