As the world’s fastest accelerating vehicle, with 1.99 seconds required from naught to 60 mph (97 kph), the Tesla Model S Plaid has made a solid name for itself with car fans all over the world.
We’ve seen it take on some beasts with big engines under their hoods, and we’ve also watched it put its skills to the test against the clock. In this video, however, which is only 14 seconds long and can be viewed at the bottom of the page, the electric hyper sedan went up against a classic American muscle car.

The boxy front end and curved rear fenders reveal that it is none other than the third-generation Plymouth Barracuda. By the looks of it, it hides a rather big engine behind that small grille, and there is a very good chance that it might be a Hemi.

Now, there is now way of knowing exactly what type of lump we are looking at here, or how much power it puts down, yet this is a true dragster, with neck-snapping performance. But is that enough to help it teach an important lesson to its zero-emission rival? It depends on a number of factors, including the perfect take-off, because it would be nothing without a skilled driver holding on to the wheel.

Off the line, the Cuda turned out to be faster than the Tesla, but can it hold on to that advantage for the entire run, or will the electric model catch up with it and knock its lights out? Unfortunately, due to the filming angle, you may have to squint to tell which one was quicker at the end of the quarter-mile sprint, and once you do, you will clearly see the winner.

So, can the classic ICE-powered machine actually beat the Model S Plaid? The answer is only one mouse-click away.
