A number of classic and modern cars, together with rare New South Wales numerical number plates, were sold at Shannons Sydney Spring Auction in Australia.
The most expensive car sold was the AUD53,000 ($51,989) Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R that had covered just 54,700 km (33,989 miles) in the hands of its original first owner. The car is one of just 100 R32s produced for the Australian market.
However, the supercar was not the most expensive thing to go under the auctioneer’s hammer, being trumped by a pair of rare double-digit NSW motorcycle numerical number plates. The two plates, sporting the numbers ‘50’ and ‘88’, sold for AUD60,000 ($58,845) each. The NSW numerical car number plates ‘3505’ and ‘6878’ each brought AUD40,000 (39,230).
“These plates are now probably in no more than 100 private hands in New South Wales,” Shannons National Auction Manager, Christophe Boribon, said. “The pool is shrinking and the market is waking up.”
The second-best price result was the AUD46,000 ($45,13) paid for a 1972 Jaguar E-type Series 3 V12 Coupe that had covered only 40,830 miles (65,709 km) since delivery in Australia, all in the hands of its original owner. The car is in “near new” condition and has an eye-catching turquoise paintjob.
Other cars sold include a 1964 Holden EH Premier sedan in exceptional original condition, a 1971 Ford Fairlane ZD 302 V8 sedan and a left hand drive 1967 Mustang. The 1973 Chevrolet Corvette ‘Targa’ Coupe only fetched AUD32,000 ($31,371), while a 1969 Fiat 850 two-door sedan with exceptional paint and bodywork and its original number plates brought a decent AUD10,500 ($10,297).
