July 5th - 7th 2013, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, is the place and time to be if you're into BMW motorcycles. The event is not only the biggest BMW rally around the globe, but this year, things are huge: the Bavarian bike manufacturer turns 90!
As a token of gratitude for the historic motorcycle manufacturer, this year's BMW Motorrad Days will host a very nifty race: the Classic Boxer Sprint. The competition is a 1/8 mile (200 m) dash and is open for flat twins (boxer) motorcycles only.
Riders can enter their machines in this competition regardless of manufacturing date or number of valves. BMW Motorrad officials add that they're looking for genuine classic bikes: cafe-racers, bobbers and scramblers, so if you're riding a 2013 GS1200R, we really don't see any point in racing against a '52 machine.
The sprint only has 32 entries, and BMW will select the most interesting bikes for the July 6th race. The winner will automatically qualify for the Glemseck 101 race later this year. Those interested must send their application and a picture of their bike to this e-mail address. Check out Motorrad's and BMW's web locations for more details.
