Clarion Launches New In-Car Multimedia and Navigation Unit

Car audio systems manufacturer Clarion has just introduced in the British market a new multimedia and navigation unit, featuring a Graphical User Interface, easy to operate despite the complexity of features, and at an RRP of £999 ($1,644).

iPod control can be made through the fully-motorised 7-inch QVGA colour touch-screen or through the iPod itself. The iPod video playback is also possible via an optional cable.

The NX509E incorporates 2-Zone technology, separating the in-car environment into two distinct zones, so that a DVD for example, can be shown in the back (with the addition of a suitable screen/screens), while the front seat passengers can listen to their favourite songs via CD, Radio, USB or iPod.

The navigation system uses test-to-speech voice guidance to give clear and precise instructions, including road names. The Bluetooth connectivity is an optional addition, via the BLT373 interface.

In fact, Clarion aimed to enhance the home-entertainment feel of its in-car AVN unit, so it used a 24-bit D/A converter to cancel unwanted background noise, and create a clearer, more realistic audio reproduction.

Moreover, the Magna Bass EX provides extra low-frequency impact (boosting bass by 10dB at 60 Hz), for a well-balanced sound reproduction, whilst the addition of BBE MP (Minimised Polynomial Non-Linear Saturation) enhances compressed music formats.

Just as expected, the user can also customize the sound system, through the built-in high pass and low pass filters and Beat EQ presets, whilst the 4 x 50 Watt internal amplifier is put in use with the help of the separate subwoofer volume control.
