We've mentioned this countless of times and Mercedes-Benz has been acknowledging it for quite a few months now, but its is only last week that they decided to actually do something about it.
One of the subjects of this predicament is of course the CLA, arguably the sexiest member of the Mercedes-Benz MFA (Modular Front Architecture) platform, which has been selling like hotcakes in pretty much every market.
Daimler's solution is naturally to increase its production, with a number of new plants in North America being prospected for the upcoming future. Until that time arrives, the Germans decided to add a third production shift to its plant in Kecskemét, Hungary – the only location where the CLA is built so far.
“Most recently, our production has hardly kept up with the dynamic sales development of our compacts. That's why we are now switching our second compact car plant to three-shift operations as well - this allows us to serve the wishes of our customers around the world even better and timelier.” said Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
The third additional shift at the Hungarian plant will be introduced starting with May this year, therefore aligning it with the factory in Rastatt, which has been running in a three-shift mode since October 2012.
As some of you already know, Mercedes-Benz sold no less than 371,399 units from their compact class in 2013, representing an increase of 64 percent compared with 2012.
