CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake Rendering Looks Spot on

With the fifth and final member of the Mercedes-Benz MFA (Modular Front-wheel drive Architecture) platform to be unveiled later this year, it has become evident from a few months ago that it will also have an AMG variant.

We are naturally talking about the upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake (X117), whose AMG variant was already spied on numerous occasions in the last couple of months.

As all those pre-production CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake prototypes were caught wearing a somewhat heavy camouflage, Dutch Photoshop artist Remco Meulendijk decided to have a go at creating a render of the model.

The result is, if you ask us, spot on, and the following two images show pretty much how the production variant of the car should look like.

In essence, the CLA Shooting Brake, whether sporting an AMG badge or not, is a much smaller and cheaper entrance into the world of niche Mercedes-Benz models, such as the recently-facelifted CLS, despite the fact that some people will probably see it as a sexier station wagon variant of the A-Class.

Technically, they shouldn't be too wrong, as the CLA is based on the same platform as the A-Class, but in reality the Shooting Brake version should fill an even smaller niche than the “regular” CLA.

This comes despite the fact that thanks to a slightly higher roofline it should offer more headroom for the rear passengers, while the rear hatch should give better access to the luggage compartment.

As expected, the CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake will be powered by the same turbocharged four-cylinder as all the other “45 AMG” models, with the tiny M133 delivering no less than 360 hp and 450 Nm (332 lb ft) of torque to all four wheels.

Performance should be identical or just slightly worse than on the CLA 45 AMG, with the naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration time to be either 4.6 or 4.7 seconds. Unlike the non-AMG CLA Shooting Brake, the AMG version will probably be unveiled either right at the end of this year or in the beginning of 2015.
