Citroen has prepared a futuristic concept car, and has revealed it one month ahead of its public debut, scheduled for the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
The creation is named CXPERIENCE Concept, and is a two-box saloon that has a length of 4.85 meters (15.9 feet). Its width is of two meters (6.56 feet), while the wheelbase is of three meters (9.84 feet). The height is only of 1.37 meters (4.49 feet). The result is a sleek sedan with the silhouette of a coupe.
Citroen says it made this concept with the purpose of illustrating how an upmarket model from them would look, and we would be seriously impressed if they managed to pull off a production version close to this car. In a way, we see the CXPERIENCE as a mature and evolved version of the GT by Citroen, another futuristic concept of the French brand.
Among its highlights are a set of suicide rear doors, the elimination of the B-pillar, and a look of a coupe on a four-seat sedan. The car has individual seating, which comes with wood trim on the rear and with a bright yellow upholstery.
The powerful contrast of wood with bright yellow is continued on the futuristic dashboard, which has received a minimalist approach. The steering wheel is simple and stylish, while the multimedia unit is a massive, landscape-oriented, touchscreen. The driver has a big head-up display in front, which appears to replace the gauge cluster somehow.
On the outside, you cannot help but notice the elimination of conventional headlamps, along with their replacement in the form of LED lights. The rear of this concept car could preview the look of future hatchbacks from Citroen, but it also makes us wonder how a C6 could look if it had a flattened rear. The rear lights are not as thin as the headlamps, but they still look cool.
We are not so sure about the bumper design, and the unusual C-pillar also makes us question the appearance of the entire model. However, we still like the way this looks.
This model is a plug-in hybrid, which combines a gasoline engine and an electric motor. The internal combustion unit provides somewhere between 150 and 200 HP, while the e-motor unit delivers a maximum of 80 kW (108 HP). In the fully electric mode, this car could drive up to 60 kilometers on a full charge of its three kWh battery.
Citroen mentions that the CXPERIENCE uses the two forms of energy together in successive acceleration phases. The gasoline engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which also integrates the electric motor. The latter feeds the rear wheels. When high performance is requested, the vehicle delivers a total power of up to 300 HP.
