Being part of the same group as Peugeot, Citroen were bound to want a piece of the 301’s market, so they’ve restyled it and, of course, gave it a new name, of a typically French resonance - a name which must be pronounced the correct way or not at all: C-Elysée.
It is the cheaper of the two new sedans, with the other, the C4 L is a Chinese-designed sedan version of Citroen’s new C4 hatchback. Of the two cars, the C4 L really stands out as a piece of quality car design, whereas the C-Elysée is clearly a Peugeot 301 with a different front fascia and rear lights.

The C-Elysée will be European-built (in Spain) and go on sale in Central Europe, Turkey and Algeria by the end of this year, expected to be powered by PSA’s lower powered 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter diesel engines, as well as their petrol counterparts - it won’t get any THP turbo engines, though.

The C4 L, the more upmarket of the two, will go on sale in the first half of 2013 and it will be manufactured in multiple locations, for sale around the specified countries, in places like Kaluga, Russia or Wuhan, China.

Power will come from both petrol and diesel powerplants, with the C4 L’s more mature character allowing it to dig deep into the PSA parts bin for something good under the bonnet. Expect 1.6-liter turbos, both petrol and diesel, with the diesels going up to 2.0-liters and 163-hp, which will drive the car via a new six-speed automatic transmission (that Citroen and Peugeot so desperately needed).
