Seeing how well Nissan is doing with Qashqai, Citroen decided to make its very own crossover, seeing as Peugeot didn't give them the 2008 to play with. This is the car that came out, called the C4 Cactus and looking like a cross between a van and a hatchback.
It was previewed as a concept last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show and according to Citroen themselves will make its official exactly one week from now, on Wednesday February the 5th.
The Cactus is designed for urban mobility, with paint-protecting covers Citroen calls "Air Bumps" and a practical boot. The platform and probably a number of the interior components will be shared with the C4 Picasso MPV, so expect flexible seating.
Citroen already has a small SUV, the C4 Aircross which is based on the Mitsubishi ASX. However, the Cactus is designed to be cheaper, offering only FWD architecture. Citroen C Line boss Pierre Monferrini has previously announced that we "won’t find the 155 horsepower THP engine in the Cactus". Instead, expect a mix of smaller and cheaper units. By the time of its launch, the Cactus could even be the first new Citroen to get the 1.2 THP three-cylinder engine.
