Citroen has revealed the first photos of its Metropolis concept, a big luxury saloon that will be officially unveiled at the Shanghai Expo next month, Autocar reports.

Bigger than a long-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz S-Class at 5.3 meters long and wide as a Maybach 62, the Metropolis could open up an entirely new market for the French manufacturer. The Metropolis is the first car to be styled and developed by the PSA Group’s Shanghai design studio. It uses themes from the Hypnos concept, like the wide Citroen double chevron in the grille, the air intakes ahead of the front wheels and very similar door mirrors. The turbine-style wheels are 21 inches large and are shod in 265/35 tires.

The car sits on PSA Group’s Platform 3, used by cars such as the Citroen C6 and the Peugeot 407. This platform is used by both Peugeot and Citroen to build cars in China with Dongfeng Auto. The Metropolis uses a hybrid drivetrain, combining a 2.0-litre V6 petrol engine paired with an electric motor that can increase its output from 55 to 95 horsepower when needed.

The gasoline unit produces 272 horsepower and 277 lb-ft. of torque on its own, but add the electric motor’s maximum output and the combined power reaches 460 horsepower and 317 lb-ft. of torque. The transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch box and the car is four-wheel drive. Citroen claims performance figures that equal those of a 4.0-liter V8 petrol engine with CO2 emissions of just 70 g/km.

China is the second largest market for Citroen and it’s a market well-known for its love of large luxury saloons. At this month’s Beijing Auto Show, BMW will present a long-wheelbase 5 Series and Volkswagen will showcase its facelifted Phaeton.
