Citroen Launches Its Most Powerful LCV in the UK

The British division of Citroen today announced the introduction of the new Euro 5 Relay 35 HDi 180 6-speed manual panel van and chassis cabs in the local market. According to the French manufacturer, this is its most powerful LCV model yet. The new range comes to replace the previous Euro 4 Relay 35 HDi 160 6-speed manual models.

Citroen claims the new 3.0HDi Euro 5 180 engine delivers a 12.5% power increase, up from 160hp to 180hp. Peak torque is unchanged at 400Nm, but the new HDi 180 develops this at just 1,400rpm, 300rpm lower than the superseded HDi 160 engine.

Also, on the combined cycle, the Euro 5 Relay 35 L3H2 HDi 180 6-speed manual panel van returns 33.2mpg - a 9.2% improvement over the Euro 4 Relay HDi 160 powered panel van’s 30.4mpg.  Additionally, the Euro 5 Relay 35 L3H2 HDi 180 6-speed manual panel van’s CO2 emissions are just 224g/km, down 9% from the previous Euro 4 engine’s 246g/km.

The company has also revealed pricing for the new range, with the entry-level level, the Panel Van, priced from £25,590, and the Chassis Cab starting from £21,740.

“The new low emission and fuel efficient Euro 5 HDi 180 powered Relay models will be welcomed by operators needing the benefits of both high payload and load hauling performance, mated with optimum levels of fuel efficiency.  We are confident that when the complete Euro 5 Relay range is available later this year it will offer very high standards of fuel efficiency and low emissions, which will make it amongst the cleanest and greenest in its class,” explained Scott Michael, Citroen’s Commercial Vehicles Operations Manager.
