Known as a carmaker that has pioneered several automotive technologies that went into production, Citroen is about to introduce another innovative concept to the world: the Hybrid Air.
Basically a full-hybrid technology combining a petrol engine, compressed air and hydraulic power, the Hybrid Air solution delivers outstanding fuel economy, rated at over 94 miles per gallon (3 liters / 100 km).
With no additional batteries, the PSA Peugeot Citroen developed system is guaranteed to have no impact on interior space and it's said to hit the market with more affordable pricing. The first production cars are set to debut in 2016.
The Hybrid Air, which according to Citroen is suitable only for subcompact and compact cars, has three operating modes, each being design to be used in different environments: Air Mode for driving around the city, Gasoline Mode for highway, and Combined Mode during initial start and powerful acceleration.
The Hybrid Air technology will be showcased at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show in a Citroen C3 VTi 82 prototype.
