Citroen DS5 to Debut in 2011, DS3 Cabrio Postponed

The revival of the DS range has brought several modifications in Citroen's product strategy for the next few years and, although the company has already sketched the launching scheduled of the new models to complete the range, slight changes are again implemented. The DS3 Cabriolet that was initially expected to debut in 2011 will be postponed and a decision regarding the launch of the vehicle is yet to be made.

The main reason for Citroen delaying the launch of the DS3 Cabrio is the success registered by the three-door variant which is selling pretty well, so the French manufacturer tries to benefit the most from the way the DS3 performs.

The DS5 on the other hand will be introduced as soon as April next year as the company intends to show the vehicle, dressed as a concept, at the Shanghai Auto Show in early 2011. The production-ready model will be revealed later the same year, this time at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September.

The DS5 crossover will measure 4600mm and will feature a very spacious interior, L'Automobile Magazine writes, and will borrow design cues from the C-SportLounge concept displayed by the French company in 2005.

The engine lineup of the future DS5 will include a wide array of options, including a hybrid configuration that will rely on a 2.0-liter HDi engine an electric motor, together developing around 200 horsepower, as the source suggests. Other versions will be included as well, including a 1.6-liter with two power options - 150 and 200 horsepower, a 2.0-liter HDi with 140 horsepower or 163 horsepower plus a 2.2-liter HDi unit with 204 horsepower.

The DS5 is designed to be somewhat affordable, with Citroen planning to price it at around EUR 27,000.
