The recently released results from Euro NCAP show that Citroen’s DS5 is ready to meet tougher requirements in 2012. As a top scorer with five star result, the DS5 is fitted with the Citroen Localized Emergency Call, a PSA Peugeot-Citroen technology recognised in 2010 under Euro NCAP Advanced.

The French car received 14.7 points for the frontal impact, 8.0 for side impact protection and 6.6 for the more radical side impact with a poll. The seat and head restraint offered marginal protection against whiplash injuries in a rear-end impact, according to Euro NCAP.

Child occupant protection was also excellent, with the Peugeot excelling in 18 month old and 3 year old categories for a combined efficiency of 83 percent.

The DS5, here tested in its 2.0l diesel Level 1 form, protected the dummies inside well, results showing good protection for the knees and femurs of both the driver and front passenger. The DS5 scored maximum points for the protection it provided in the side barrier test. However, in the more severe pole side impact test the chest was rated as weak.

“The bumper provided good protection to pedestrians' legs. In the areas likely to be struck by the head of a child, the bonnet offered mixed protection with good, marginal and poor areas. In those areas likely to be struck by an adult's head, the protection was poor for the entire region ans was awared no points,” Euro NCAP says.

Finally, in respects to the Safety Assist, Euro NCAP was satisfied with the fact that Electronic stability control and speed limitation devices are standard on the car, along with a seatbelt reminder system for the driver, passenger and rear seats.
