Citroen C1 Furio Is All Show, But No Go

Furio isn’t a made-up word by Citroen. It comes from the ancient Latin word Furio, which translates into “to drive mad.” Furiosus is the Latin for full of madness. That said, care to guess what Furio means in Citroen slang? Abso-frigging-lutely nothing whatsoever.
In the early 2000s, Citroen used Furio to denote a go-faster variant of the Saxo. Now, though, the manufacturer revived the handle for the C1. The question is, is the C1 Furio more powerful and faster than the C1?

Well, no. Furio is nothing but a fancy way of saying: “Here! We’ve adorned the C1 with some sporty decals and wheels! It’s a sporty car now, the youngsters will love it. Heck, the C1 Furio will sell like hot cakes!”

But you know better than that. As simply put as possible, the C1 Furio is nothing but a visual pack that builds on Citroen’s sporting legacy.

Already available to order and official on sale from August 1, the Citroen C1 Furio is priced from £10,855 and it’s less powerful than the Saxo Furio from the Banging Noughties. The top-of-the-line trim level (C1 PureTech 82 manual 3-door Furio) is priced from £11,205 in the United Kingdom, which is £135 more than the same spec without Furio suffixed to its name.

The teeny-weeny premium adds a swath of sporty details: 15-inch black-painted alloy wheels baptized “Planet” for reasons I don’t really understand, something which Citroen dubs “bold exterior graphics,” door mirror caps painted Sunrise Red, red center caps, a central exhaust outlet, and a rear diffuser. Only two paint jobs are available: Lipizzan White and Carlinite Grey.

To wrap things up nicely, the C1 Furio also prides itself on Wave gray cloth upholstery and a rev counter. I believe I know what you're thinking about right now, dear reader. And you're right. In 2016, you don’t get a rev counter as standard in the entry-level Citroen C1, Peugeot 108, and Toyota Aygo.
