If we weren’t sure whether or not we liked the Citroen DS4 before, we are now. This is called the DS4 R or Racing, and it will bow at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6th. We’re not supposed to see this carbon-fiber infused limited edition car, but some images of the car fell into the hand of the Czech website Auto Forum.
The engineers of Citroen Racing have radically enhanced the look and feel of the car. The suspension has been stiffened, and the track is 30 mm wider both at the front and on the back. We hear steering feel will also be enhanced, and it’s obvious that the ride hight has been brought right back down.
But it’s under the bonnet that the mystery starts. These photos show lots of carbon fiber, which means this is either a concept of an expensive limited production car. If so, there really is no need for them to develop a powerful turbo 2.0-liter for this car specifically. But the 1.6-liter 200 hp engine usually used for these sorts of jobs by PSA isn’t powerful enough.
So, we have to say that rumors of the DS4 Racing being a hybrid have some credibility. Supposedly, the 1.6-liter turbo in the DS3 Racing will motivate the front axle, while the back will be electric. The setup should be about the same PSA group’s diesel Hybrid4 set up, in that the 70 kw (95 PS) electric motor at the back ill make this an all-wheel drive car.
