Chrysler Group will reportedly lose $10,000 per every electric Fiat 500e sold in the state of California, Fiat & Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne said during a speed in Detroit.
“We will lose $10,000 per vehicle. Doing that on a large scale would be industrial masochism,” said Marchionne according to The Detroit Bureau.
Available just in California, in order for the automaker comply with the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) zero-emission vehicle requirement, the Fiat 500e will go on sale next month starting from $32,000. Only a few hundreds are expected to hit the streets.
Powered by an electric motor with 111 HP (83 kW) and a maximum 147 lb-ft (200 Nm) of torque, paired with a 24 kWh Lithium-Ion battery, the Fiat 500e offers the equivalent of 108 miles per gallon and has a range of 87 miles on a single charge.
The EV can also be acquired through a lease program for $199 per month for three years plus a $999 cash deposit.
