Hardly surprising at all, the best-selling vehicles to get your family from point A to point B is the Chrysler Town & Country and its more mundane brother, the Dodge Grand Caravan. In 2014, their combined sales of 272,192 units accounted for nearly one-half of all minivans sold in the States.
As the creator of the minivan segment with the 1984 model year Dodge Caravan, the Chrysler Group isn’t that surprised its products are at the top of their segment in terms of sales volume. If you’re into specifics, Chrysler’s Town & Country moved 138,040 units in 2014 (a 13 percent hike from 2013), while the Dodge Grand Caravan sold 134,152 units last year (an 8 percent increment).

Overall, the 272,192 units of combined minivan sales in 2014 represents an 11 percent increase from the previous year. “FCA US has more than 30 years of minivan leadership and nearly 80 minivan firsts, including class-exclusive Stow ‘n Go seating and segment-leading Blu-ray rear-seat entertainment system,” said Reid Bigland, head of US Sales. “We’ll continue to listen to our customers and innovate to remain the minivan segment leader.” Both people carriers are built at the Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada.

As you already know, the 2015 model year of the Chrysler-developed minivans come as standard with Stow ’n Go Seats and a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 lump rated 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm). With an EPA-rated 25 mpg (9.4 l/100 km) highway, the seven-seater family haulers are also pretty frugal, but there’s a problem with the two minivans - their age. The Gen V Town & Country is 7 years old already.

Those of you that are in the market for this type of vehicle, fret not! FCA Corporate tweeted very recently that the 2017 Chrysler Town & Country will make its live debut at the 2016 edition of the Detroit Auto Show. As ever, Windsor Assembly is going to take care of production duties.

Things to really look forward to: a more efficient, turbo Pentastar V6 and a 75 to 95 MPGe PHEV model.
