Two years ago, Chrysler promised to resurrect the Viper by reopening its plant in Detroit and as they said, at the 2012 New York International Auto Show, the American manufacturer unveiled its new 2013 SRT Viper.
The assembly plant makes only 14 SRT Vipers per day and the automaker’s brand chief Ralph Gilles said that Chrysler are expecting to ship 1,800 units of the two-door performance coupe this year.

“The business case works at far less than 2,000 a year,” Gilles said in an interview on the sidelines of the 2013 New York auto show Thursday. “It’s a handmade car. It’s really a laborious process.”

Mr. Gilles himself owns a white one and he is very proud of it, saying that “it’s easy to maintain, doesn’t show any scratches, looks good for years.”

The first 800 Vipers were shipped already to their customers in North America, the first unit being auctioned for a pediatric cancer charity.
