Chrysler Group LLC has just announced the recall of 919,545 Jeep SUVs, manufactured between the 2002 and 2004 model-years, due to a faulty safety system, which may cause its airbags to deploy for no reason.
The models in question are the Grand Cherokee and the Liberty, and their problem is caused by a faulty part in the airbag control modules, which may fail under unspecified circumstances.

If this occurs, then the front or curtain airbags could deploy while the car is being driven, thus dramatically increasing the risk of accident (due to startling the driver) or injury caused by the airbags themselves.

Not all affected vehicles are from the US, though, as some 105,465 are from outside North America, 49,430 from Canada and 21,828 from Mexico. Owners of the affected vehicles will receive a letter from the manufacturer, and the faulty part will be replaced free of charge, as of January 2013.
