Chrysler Recalls Over 161,000 2007-2008 Jeep Wranglers

Chrysler issued yet another recall in the US, this time concerning some Jeep Wrangler models, due to a problem with the automatic transmission. The American manufacturer announced it is recalling 161,450 2007-2008 Jeep Wrangler vehicles over potential transmission overheating problems.

According to the official recall notice, “Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2007 through 2008 Jeep Wrangler manufacture between June 2006 through July 2008 passenger vehicles equipped with automatic transmission. These vehicles were not equipped with a transmission fluid temperature warning system.”

The direct consequence of such a problem is that if the fluid in the affected vehicles overheats, it may boil over and come in contact with hot engine or exhaust components, which could likely lead to a fire.

“Fluid could boil over and may come into contact with a hot engine or exhaust component and cause fire,”
the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says on its official site.

Just as expected, Chrysler dealers will take care of this problem free of charge. The recall, which is expected to begin sometimes in December, will involve the installment of a visual "Hot Oil" message in the instrument cluster accompanied by an audible chime to indicate the elevated fluid temperature.

"Dealers will inspect and install a ‘Hot Oil’ message in the instrument cluster and a chime indicating an elevated transmission fluid condition. The recall is expected to begin during December 2009. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-835-1403,"
the notification stated.

The aforementioned recall comes shortly after Chrysler issued another safety warning, which involved over 84,000 2007 Dodge Caliber vehicle. The recall was issued due to the windshield wiper, as the excessive use of the wiper may make it inoperable.
