American manufacturer Chrysler announced today it is recalling over 84,000 2007 Dodge Caliber vehicles, due to the... windshield wiper. Apparently, the excessive use of the wiper may make it inoperable...
According to the official recall notice, "the windshield wiper system may experience a condition over time where high usage of the variable pause wiper function (delay, mode) may eventually affect primary wiper function, rendering the wiper system inoperable."
Of course, you could argue what's the big deal? It is, after all, only a wiper system and has nothing to do with the way the car behaves or performs. Yet, remember winter is almost here, and a malfunctioning wiper system may ruin your day.
"Inoperative wipers under inclement weather conditions could cause impaired visibility increasing the risk of a crash," the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says on its official site.
The solution to this problem is simple and, as usual, will be provided free of charge. Still, this will require a trip to the local dealer, where external relays will be added and the integrated power module software will be tested. According to Chrysler, the recall is expected to begin sometimes during this month.
This is the second recall announced this month by Chrysler, who last week it issued a notice of recall for 2009-2010 Chrysler 300, 2009 - 2010 Dodge Challenger and 2009-2010 Dodge Charger. The reason behind the recall was the fact that they "may have been built without a front wheel spindle nut."
