Chrysler Recalls 37,407 2009 Dodge Ram

Still under Chapter 11, Chrysler is experiencing tough times in the United States where it has to recall no less than 37,407 model year 2009 Dodge Rams due to a malfunction in the air conditioning system. According to a notification published on the official website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), recalls are expected to begin in June 2009, with all operations to be done free of charge.

"Chrysler is recalling 37,407 model year 2009 Dodge Ram light duty pickup trucks equipped with manual temperature control (MTC) only,"
the notification reads. "The software programmed into the heating ventilation and air conditioning module may cause the windshield defrosting and defogging functions to become inoperative."

Wondering what could happen if such a glitch occurs? "This can decrease the driver's visibility under certain driving conditions and result in a crash without warning," NHTSA explained.

As said, recalls are due to start in June and "dealers will reprogram the HVAC module free of charge," Chrysler explained in the advisory posted on the website.

The fourth-generation Dodge Ram was officially shown to the world at the 2008 North American International Auto Show held in Detroit and is sold as 2009 model. There are several engine configurations included in the range, starting with the 3.7-liter unit and ending with a 6.7-liter configuration.

The new Dodge Ram has always been praised by Chrysler for the safety features it incorporates, with the whole range offering four-wheel disc ABS, side curtain airbags and ESP as standard. Furthermore, the latest model received a Good rating in the front crash tests conducted by IIHS and a Marginal score for side impact protection.
