Detroit-based automaker Chrysler is recalling about 47,000 Ram 1500 full-size and 4500/5500 heavy-duty pickup trucks over ESC software and track bar issues respectively.
45,961 of the affected vehicles are Ram 1500 trucks built between June 26, 2012 and February 5, 2013. These trucks are being recalled due to a potential software glitch that may disable the Electronic Stability Control when the vehicle is started.
“A disabled ESC system may result in loss of directional control, increasing the risk of a crash,” says Chrysler, adding that owners will be notified and dealers will update the ESC module software free of charge.
The company also recalled 1,058 Ram 4500 and 5500 heavy-duty trucks built from January 22, 2013 through March 8, 2013, stating that “an incorrect bolt may have been used to attach the track bar to the frame”, which could result in the vehicle suddenly pulling to one side. Owners will be contacted and the truck inspected by Chrysler dealers, who will replace the track bar fasteners free of charge.
