Chrysler and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) today issued a recall for several models belonging to the brands owned by the US-based manufacturer. The recall concerns 2009-2010 Chrysler 300, 2009 and 2010 Dodge Challenger plus 2009-2010 Dodge Charger.
"Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2009 through 2010 passenger vehicles equipped with rear wheel drive," it is mentioned in the notification posted on the official website of the NHTSA. "These vehicles may have been built without a front wheel spindle nut."
Wondering what could happen in case your car is affected by such a problem? "While driving, a tire and wheel separation could occur increasing the risk of a crash," the advisory reads.
Just as expected, all fixing operations will be conducted free of charge. "Dealers will inspect the tire and wheel assembly and if found without a spindle nut, it will be repaired free of charge". According to official information, the recalls have already begun in October and will run through November as well.
Chrysler is not the only company that struggles with a severe recall in the United States, as Japanese manufacturer Toyota is currently in deep talks with the NHTSA to start a recall on approximately 3.8 million cars. It appears that some incompatible floor mats, combined with a number of other glitches - some of them even affecting the accelerator pedal, might block the driver from stopping the vehicle and continue accelerating. Several people have already died in accidents caused by stuck accelerator pedals and Toyota urges all consumers to remove their floor mats entirely.
