The Chrysler Group announced today that an estimated 159 trucks need to be inspected and, if necessary, have their gearboxes replaced by an authorized dealership service as soon as possible.
An undisclosed transmission supplier advised the American automotive group that a small shipment of its gearboxes contain a flaw that may prevent any of the 159 Ram trucks affected from shifting into park.
Fortunately, Chrysler hasn't been informed yet of injuries or accidents associated with this matter. The Auburn Hills, Michigan-based truck maker specified that 2014 model year Ram 1500 pickups made over the course of 12 days in late January and early February of 2014 are affected.
Authorized service technicians will inspect these 159 vehicles in order to determine if the flaw is present. If it is, the transmission units will be replaced at no cost to the customers. Vehicles subjected to this campaign number approximately 125 Stateside, 32 in Canada and two outside of North America and Europe.
The Chrysler Group said it will contact the owners of these models to schedule service visits. Customers who have concerns may call 1-800-853-1403 for further info on the aforementioned issue.
