Chrysler is reportedly considering adding a third truck plant to meet strong demand for Ram pickups in North America.
Despite vowing never to build another assembly plant in North America, Sergio Marchionne revealed that the and other Fiat Chrysler executive are debating whether to build a third pickup truck plant, Automotive News reports.
However, he stressed that the odds of a new plant being built are "under 50 percent", as the existing facilities in Warren, Michigan, and Saltillo, Mexico, could increase Ram truck production by 15 to 20 percent.
The Ram pickup trucks were Chrysler's best-selling vehicle last year, with 355,673 units delivered for a 21 percent gain over 2012. The current truck was redesigned for the 2013 model year, when the Ram 1500 full-size was named North American Truck of the Year.
For the 2014 model year, Ram introduced a diesel version of the 1500. The fuel efficient truck is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine that's rated at 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque and offers towing capabilities similar to that of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 Ram.
