With the ever inflating trend toward better vehicle safety, the Chrysler Group informs about a few changes meant to make their nameplates more safe to drive than before. These changes are the establishment of a new vehicle safety office and appointing a new head of product development.
Led by senior vice president Scott Kunselman, the new office of Vehicle Safety and Regulatory Compliance takes over duties previously handled by the automaker's global engineering group. Effective immediately, this action has been designed to intensify vehicle safety and regulatory compliance. According to Chrysler, this function will be served by a stand-alone organization, with Kunselman reporting directly to CEO Sergio Marchionne.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Kunselman has been the senior vice president of engineering, a position that included oversight of regulatory compliance. Another big change effective immediately is Tom Finelli, which will join the NAFTA leadership team and the NAFTA Purchasing and Supplier Quality division.
John Nigro, the previous vice president of Systems & Components Engineering, will assume the role of head of NAFTA Product Development, a positing responsible for all systems and component engineering, vehicle line programs, advanced vehicle development, architecture, innovation, product technical planning and vehicle testing and validation.
Mr. Nigro replaces Mark Chernoby, who was appointed chief operating officer of Product Development, a position that oversees the worldwide activities of the Engineering and Development organization.
