Chrysler Drops Prices for Better Sales Figures

Chrysler Group took a decision that will help raise its sales and at the same time will make a couple of its models more accessible. The company decided to cut prices on a pair of mid-sized sedans and the Dodge Journey crossover for the 2012 model year. The price changes suffered by the 2012 Chrysler 200 and the 2012 Dodge Avenger will drop the price to $19,745, including delivery, while the 2011 models used to cost $19,995.

The 2012 Journey will have its price cut to $21,795, including an $800 destination charge from most variants. The 2011 Journey starts at $22,995. The price reduction come as most car manufacturers are raising prices to counter higher material costs. General Motors, for example will rise prices on 2012 models by an average of 1 percent. Chrysler scheduled Dodge models to go on sale during the third quarter, and the 2012 Chrysler 200 will hot the showrooms in September.

The new base price resulted after the reduction program on the Avenger and 200 is lower than several competing vehicles, including the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu which has a base price of $22,755. Ford Fusion starts at $20,645 and the Toyota Camry starts at $20,955. The Journey is a class leader considering its price, with a base sticker lower than the $30,240 Chevrolet Traverse and the $28,900 Toyota Highlander, delivery included.
