Chrysler Drops Mildly in December, High Hopes for 2010

Having concluded a troubled year, American manufacturer Chrysler announced its sales result for the last month of 2009. Unlike what happened almost all year long, Chrysler posted a 36 percent increase in sales for the last month of the year, compared to November, as well as improved market share. In the US, Chrysler sold 86,523 units in December, but didn't manage to save a disastrous year and posted an overall 36 percent decline compared to 2008 (931,402 units sold) - the worst in 47 years. “As we kick off the new year, Chrysler Group continues to build momentum with some of the best products in the marketplace, and we are enthusiastic about the new products coming this year,” Fred Diaz, Chrysler sales executive said in a release. Taken one by one, eleven Chrysler vehicles managed to post an increase in December, including the best performer Dodge Journey (6,872 units sold, 61 percent up). At the opposite end, despite the 47 percent increase, the dying Sebring convertible only managed to sell 937 units.
With the past now...in the past, all that Chrysler has to do is sit back and enjoy the ride outlined by Sergio Marchionne in his five-year business plan. Spirits are high, apparently, among Chrysler's executives, as you can see in the quote below, belonging to the aforementioned Diaz.

Our great Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram products are being recognized by opinion leaders in the industry, and consumers are responding in a positive way. In 2010 the company will continue to earn the trust of consumers with exciting, high-quality vehicles that are priced right.
